Kevin Murphy closed out an incedible high school career with a 55 point senior year, good enough to be named Division III player of the year. Kevin scored 24 goals and added 31 assists and helped lead the Eagles to their 3rd State Championship in 4 seasons. Murphy closes out his career with 170 points and is the all time leader in points at Kennett. Murphy was also named to play in the Granite State game this Saturday at Everett Arena. The top 20 players will be choosen to play versus Vermont in the Twin State Games later this summer. In addition Murphy was named to the Division III 1st Team All State as a forward.
Murphy is joined on the team by Matt Kelly who plays defense. Kelly was named to the second team. John Bishop who led Division III goaltenders in all major categories was choosen to the honorable mention team. Coach Lane talked about all three players.
Murphy: “Kevin had a great career. He has left Kennett a better place then he found it. What more can you say, all time leading scorer and a major player in all four finals appearences.”
Kelly: “The best one on one defender in the state. I never saw him get beat, ever! He was a rock, played a ton of minutes and did everything the right way.”
Bishop: “John was fantastic all season. He has great skills in the nets and really played big in big games. Thats where you earn respect is how you play under pressure and this kid played his best whent he most people were watching.”
Lane also showed praise for Connor Todd and Dillon Smith who were left off the team but coach Lane said were two of the top forwards in the league. “Connor and Dillon had great seasons, its a shame they were over looked, but we as a coaching staff know how good they are and that we don’t get where we got without them.”
